Colonel Joe Dowdy, USMC (Ret), founder and Principle of Lyceum Global Consulting, has over 30 years of service as a Marine officer, as a private sector executive, and as a Senior Executive with NASA. Lyceum Global Consulting is a private firm dedicated to helping our client’s make distinctive, lasting, and a substantial improvement in their leadership performance.
Mr. Dowdy has over 25 years of experience as an Infantry Officer in both command and staff positions throughout the world. During his distinguished career, he was honored with a total of 10 years of command experience ranging from a 42-person platoon to a 7,000-person Regimental Combat Team in combat. His duties lead him to service in over 50 countries and include combat operations in Beirut, Panama, Somalia and Iraq.
He is a graduate of numerous military schools including Airborne School, Ranger School, where he was the distinguished honor graduate of his class, the Marine Corps Command and Staff, Joint Officer’s Staff College and the prestigious Army War College.
Following his retirement from active service, Mr. Dowdy joined a defense contracting firm as an Executive Director for a national defense and industry consulting firm that provide innovative, problem-solving solutions for senior leaders and decision makers. His responsibilities included planning and executing business development plans, creating enterprise solutions for future U.S. Command and Control Network and Strategic Planning system, and developing systems and processes for future U.S. Army operating forces.
In 2005, he founded Lyceum Global Consulting, and entered into organizational development and performance improvement consultative services. He counted among his clients a variety of private sector firms including Bell-Riddell Sports, Global Santa Fe Drilling, Wal-Mart and Qualcomm. In the wake of the devastating effects of Hurricane KATRINA, Mr. Dowdy served as an Advisor to the Center Director of NASA’s Stennis Space Center, MS and the Senior NASA Official in-charge of disaster relief and assistance. In this capacity, Mr. Dowdy provided advice on crisis management and organizational improvement activities.
He joined NASA’s Kennedy Space Center as the Chief of Staff and Special Operations Manager in the Office of the Center Director. He provided advice on organizational matters, oversaw integration activities in the business processes and strategic planning and execution. Mr. Dowdy served as the Chief of the Studies and Analysis Division at Headquarters, NASA, during a six-month detail. He proudly served as a senior advisor to the Center’s leadership development program, Foundations of Leadership. Mr. Dowdy represented the Kennedy Space Center in numerous public events.
Mr. Dowdy, a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a BA in History and Political Science and holds a MA in Management and Human Resources Development from Webster University and a MS in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
