What is Lobbying?

[ view other seminars

Why are there so many darn lobbyists in Washington? What is the definition of lobbying? How did the tradition of lobbying begin? Do professional lobbyists have a big advantage over everyone else with an interest in Congress? What are the rules and regulations pertaining to lobbying? Should our organization hire a lobbyist? If not, what information should I provide to an office when asking for their support on a bill?

Lobbying is a practice that dates back to the founding of our nation. In fact, its roots lie in the US Constitution – the right to petition one’s government – yet it is often a controversial and little understood practice. In this session, we seek to demystify the practice of lobbying and help organizations understand their ability to deliver important and relevant information into the legislative process.
