Understanding Policy, Personalities and Politics on Capitol Hill

[ view other seminars

How much do politics influence policy on Capitol Hill? Whose politics matter? What role does partisan politics play in influencing what goes on in the House and the Senate? Are all politics local or does Congress attempt to set a national policy agenda?

In this session, we will discuss the interaction of policy, personalities and politics on Capitol Hill. In order to be effective in the legislative process, it is essential to understand the partisan environment in Congress, the nature of the current party leadership in both chambers, the force of election cycles and the political pressures exerted on the Congress by constituents, businesses, interests groups and many, many others. This session will examine these influences and determine your organization's place and strength in this complicated mix.
