Understanding the Role of Personal and Committee Staffs

[ view other seminars

What role does a member’s personal staff play? How do these staffers differ from those who serve on congressional committees? Who are the specialist and who are the generalist? To whom do committee staffers report? Do staff members on the House and Senate work the same way? Do congressional staff members receive formal training?

As any student of the legislative process knows, congressional staffs have an enormous role in and impact on what happens in Congress. Knowing the different responsibilities of the personal staffs and the committee staffs and how to approach each is a key element in being effective on Capitol Hill. In this session, we will examine the role of staff, the differences between the personal and committee staff and determine which staff really matter to your organization.
